Residents in Lawton are no longer advised to let faucets drip to prevent pipes from freezing, according to the city’s Public Utilities Department. Rising temperatures have reduced the risk of frozen pipes.
According to the City of Lawton website, during the recent cold spell, daily water usage increased from 13–14 million gallons to 17–22 million gallons, putting additional strain on treatment plants and distribution systems, reported Madalynn ElKouri of Lawton Public Affairs.
Water Plant Supervisor Carl Gray told the city’s Public Affairs team that normal water use is now recommended. Dripping faucets are only necessary when temperatures fall well below freezing, particularly in exposed or unheated areas.
Residents with questions about water conditions are encouraged to contact the city at [email protected].
