A Lenoir City man has been charged in connection with a high-speed pursuit that resulted in the death of Blount County Deputy Justin Mowery. Dalton Michael Bowman, 24, faces multiple charges, including a Class A felony for evading arrest causing the death of a law enforcement officer and a Class C felony for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, WATE reports. The pursuit took place on Miser Station Road, where Deputy Mowery lost control of his patrol vehicle and fatally collided with a utility pole.

According to WVLT, Bowman also faces misdemeanor charges for driving without a license, driving on a suspended license, and simple possession of methamphetamine. He was apprehended the Monday afternoon following Deputy Mowery’s death, located at a residence in Louisville, the Blount County Sheriff’s Office reported. At the time of his arrest, Bowman—already a convicted felon on probation for a prior methamphetamine offense—was found with a handgun and about six grams of methamphetamine. The motorcycle he had been riding, later confirmed stolen from Loudon County, was also recovered.

Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong expressed appreciation for the arrest and the joint efforts of multiple agencies. “I am relieved and thankful that investigators were able to make an arrest and provide some justice to Deputy Mowery’s family,” he told WATE. He also recognized the work of investigators from the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, and other agencies involved in the case and ongoing support.

The community has responded strongly to Deputy Mowery’s death, with Sheriff Berrong expressing gratitude for the support received during funeral preparations. Dalton Bowman told investigators he knew Deputy Mowery was attempting to stop him during the incident.
