A domestic disturbance in north Harris County turned into a terrifying near-miss on Thursday when deputies say a woman doused two people with lighter fluid inside a home and tried to set them and the house on fire. The lighter reportedly failed to ignite, and authorities say no one was killed. The woman was taken into custody and is facing an aggravated assault charge.
According to a post from Harris County Constable Precinct 4 on their Facebook page, deputies were called to the 24400 block of Broken Bow Lane for a disturbance. Investigators say a female suspect poured lighter fluid on two people inside the residence, then tried to spark a lighter that would not catch. Deputies arrested her at the scene and booked her on an aggravated assault charge. The office also pointed residents to its Instagram account, @constablepct4, for ongoing updates.
Deputies' Account
Precinct 4 leans heavily on social media and a mobile alert app to share arrest details, scene photos and incident updates, often putting information out before traditional press releases land. The Houston Chronicle has previously noted the agency’s use of its “C4 NOW” app to push real-time alerts during major events.
Legal Consequences
In Texas, aggravated assault is generally treated as a felony offense that can carry prison time. The elements of the crime and potential penalties are outlined in Texas Penal Code §22.02. Prosecutors will decide whether to pursue any sentence enhancements, which can depend on evidence of intent, the extent of any injuries and whether an implement capable of causing serious harm was involved.
How Neighbors Can Stay Informed
Anyone who saw the incident or has information that could help investigators is urged to contact local law enforcement. In an emergency, call 911. For non-emergency calls and tips, residents can use the phone numbers and reporting options listed on the Harris County Constable Precinct 4 contact page.
