
Early this morning, Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded to a reported structure fire in the Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw neighborhood that left a two-story apartment building with visible signs of distress. According to the LAFD alert, moderate smoke was seen billowing from a second-floor unit at 4318 W Santo Tomas Dr. One person, a 53-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital in serious condition due to smoke inhalation.
The blaze, which was documented as incident number 0085, was extinguished rapidly, in about 15 minutes by the first-responding teams, not merely demonstrating efficiency but also preventing a wider-scale catastrophe. The firefighters remained onsite, conducting an overhaul of the affected unit to ensure that any potential hidden hot spots were addressed and all residents' safety was uncompromisingly secure. Alongside the human casualty, two dogs were also caught up in the misfortune but were rescued and are now under the care of LA Animal Services.
