An 11-year-old student from Bear Branch Intermediate in Magnolia ISD died following a medical emergency on a school bus on Tuesday, Click2Houston and ABC 13 report. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said deputies received a call at 7:38 a.m. about the unresponsive student. The medical emergency was related to a previously diagnosed condition.
In response to the emergency, school nursing staff and Precinct 5 Constable personnel were on scene immediately and began life-saving measures which included CPR, yet despite these exhaustive efforts and rapid transport to a local hospital where the care was taken over by Montgomery County Hospital District (MCHD) medics, the student was, unfortunately, pronounced deceased. "Despite the exhaustive efforts of first responders and medical staff, the student was pronounced deceased," according to a statement obtained by Click2Houston.
The cause of death is under investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Medical Examiner’s Office, though no foul play is suspected. Authorities have asked the public to respect the family’s privacy.
According to ABC13, Constable Chris Jones expressed condolences, saying, "We stand in solidarity with the school, faculty, teachers, friends, and the many loved ones of this student." Bear Branch Intermediate has arranged counselors throughout the week to support students, the district said, and asked the community to extend their sympathy to the family.
