Philadelphia police are investigating a robbery that escalated to violence in Northeast Philadelphia, where a 23-year-old man was shot in the leg early Tuesday morning, as reported by NBC Philadelphia. The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. on the 2100 block of Knorr Street, shortly after the victim parked his car to visit a friend's home.
Chief Inspector Scott Small stated in an interview with NBC Philadelphia that the man was confronted by two individuals wearing gray hooded sweatshirts who brandished a firearm and proceeded to steal his Rolex watch as well as chains from his neck. For some reason, after achieving their primary aim of theft, they discharged the firearm, wounding the man below the knee. The suspects are reportedly believed to have fled the scene in a gray sedan, which might be a Nissan, with dark-tinted windows.
According to 6abc, the victim was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition. Police are examining surveillance footage in the area as part of their ongoing investigation; however, no arrests have yet been made.
An undisclosed amount of cash was also taken during the robbery alongside the jewelry, Philadelphia's Chief Inspector Small revealed to KYW Newsradio, adding that authorities are considering possible connections between this robbery and other recent incidents in the vicinity. The police are intensifying their search efforts for the two assailants in the hopes of apprehending them and curbing any future threats to the community's safety.
