Motorists navigating through Mānoa will need to contend with road closures in early February due to the removal of a towering Bodhi tree posing a safety hazard. The Department of Parks and Recreation in Honolulu announced that the work on Mānoa Road will commence on Monday, February 2, specifically addressing the tree located at 2406 Mānoa Road.

During the operation, traffic will be redirected onto Gore Way to circumvent the site near the division of Mānoa Road into E. Mānoa Road. The road closure and detour are expected to be in effect for up to 10 days, provided the weather obliges. Previously in January, Hawaiian Electric's tree maintenance contractors had managed the tree, implementing similar traffic measures to minimize disruption, as reported on Honolulu.gov.

The Bodhi tree in question stands around 70 feet tall and spans seven feet in diameter. Despite being healthy, its imposing size threatens public and private structures as well as utilities, necessitating its removal. The task has been contracted to O‘ahu Tree Works for approximately $67,000. Local authorities have expressed their gratitude for the patience and understanding of affected motorists and the cooperation from adjacent property owners.

For those requiring assistance or accommodations due to disabilities or language barriers in relation to this removal, the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation has made a point of providing support. They can be reached at (808) 768-3003 during weekdays or contacted via email at [email protected] with at least three business days' notice before the scheduled work commences to ensure requests are adequately fulfilled.
