A Marquette man has been sentenced to a substantial prison term after being convicted on multiple counts of sexual assault against a minor. Ward Glass, 69, will face 25 to 50 years behind bars as decided by Judge Brittany A. Bulleit in the 12th Circuit Court of Houghton County, reported by Michigan's Attorney General's office.
The convictions stem from heinous acts that occurred between 1993 and 1996 with the victim, who shared a home with Glass in Houghton County during that time. The jury rendered its verdict in October, finding Glass guilty of six counts of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct. According to Michigan AG Dana Nessel, "Coming forward to report a sexual assault takes extraordinary courage. I commend the survivor in this case for her strength and the Michigan State Police and prosecutors in my office, for their diligent work in pursuing this case and securing this conviction." Nessel also asserted a commitment to stand with survivors and pursue justice, regardless of time passed.
The breakthrough in this disturbing case came when the victim, after nearly three decades, filed a complaint with the Michigan State Police upon an unexpected encounter with Ward. This led to charges being brought against Glass by the Department of Attorney General in September 2024.
Throughout the ensuing legal battle, the survivor's bravery was consistently highlighted, with Nessel praising her fortitude once more. "My office will continue to stand with survivors and pursue justice, no matter how much time has passed," she said, signaling a stance of zero tolerance for such egregious violations and a firm resolve to hold perpetrators accountable, reported by Michigan's Attorney General's office.
