In the early hours of New Year's Day, a fire wreaked havoc in a Marysville neighborhood, putting multiple lives at risk and injuring a firefighter. According to a Facebook post by the Marysville Fire District, emergency response teams were called to the scene of a residential structure fire in the 9100 block of 61st Drive NE around 1:45 a.m. on January 1st. "Callers reported heavy smoke and flames that had quickly engulfed the home and spread to the recreational vehicle in the backyard," detailed the social media update from the fire district.
The home's occupants, including two adults, three children, and four pets, managed to escape the flames unharmed. Engulfing the home rapidly, the fire prompted their swift evacuation. In the aftermath, the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family. One firefighter, while engaging the blaze, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, having been released and is now recovering at home.
The firefighting efforts, lasting over an hour, culminated in the fire being fully extinguished by 3:00 a.m. The Marysville Fire District's post acknowledged the support from several regional fire departments and law enforcement agencies, expressing gratitude for the mutual assistance received during the incident. Currently, the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are still under investigation.
In response to the incident, the Marysville Fire District stressed the importance of fire preparedness among residents. They reminded the community "to create and practice a fire escape plan" and emphasized the critical directive to "Never go back into your home after exiting an active fire."
