The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will hold a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting in Lansing to discuss road usage charges (RUC) and plans for a study and pilot program. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., according to MDOT’s website.
The meeting will include MDOT staff, contractors, and the general public. It will take place at the MDOT Office of Aeronautics, 2700 Port Lansing Road in Lansing. Anyone interested in attending or observing is encouraged to join.
MDOT encourages anyone needing special assistance to contact Orlando Curry at 517-241-7462 or [email protected]. This includes mobility, visual, hearing, written, or other aids for effective participation. Requests should be made at least five business days before the meeting; later requests will be accommodated as soon as possible.
The TAC meeting is mandated by Public Act 22 of 2025, Section 1005 of Article 15, Part 2, requiring MDOT to start a road usage charge (RUC) study and pilot program. The committee’s mission is to guide the development and evaluation of an RUC program as an alternative to the fuel tax, assessing potential benefits and drawbacks of mileage-based revenue collection.
