Memphis has seen a spike in carjacking incidents, with the most recent case emerging from the 3100 block of East Danville Circle. According to Memphis Police Department reports, on the night of January 8, four suspects targeted an individual in a red Toyota Corolla. Victims faced the terror of gunpoint demands as they were brutally stripped of their vehicles, with the first incident occurring around 9:30 p.m., followed by another carjacking less than an hour later involving a Cadillac sedan.
Witnesses and victims recounted that the four Black male suspects fled northbound after the initial carjacking. Later, at 10:38 p.m., three individuals, believed to be from the same group, executed another carjacking on Knight Arnold Road. The culprits, this time operating the previously stolen Corolla, forced a Cadillac owner to surrender her car at gunpoint, and soon after, dashed westbound, pursued by their accomplice in the Corolla.
In a development that may aid the ongoing investigation, a surveillance camera at a store on the 4400 block of Knight Arnold caught a glimpse of a suspect, offering a lead on the carjackers' appearances. "Suspect # 1 was a Black male, 5”6-5”9, medium complexion, black hooded sweatshirt, black pants with white writing on the left leg “Strength” and the right leg design of a white cross, and black shoes." The Memphis Police Department detailed. The footage shows the individual attempting to use a victim’s card before fleeing eastbound on Knight Arnold Road.
