In a unique initiative that crosses continents and cultures, Germantown High School's (GHS) television program GHS-TV, has teamed up with CMTV College in Tbilisi, Georgia, to create a joint broadcast that connects students from both schools. This partnership, embedded in the Memphis-Shelby County Schools' (MSCS) emphasis on international learning experiences, is showcasing how media can bridge gaps and foster understanding between different national backgrounds.

The visionary project known as "Across the Ocean: Learning Together" is not the first time these institutions have worked together. As told by GHS-TV, the partnership harks back to the late '90s, but it was rejuvenated in 2015, when Producer and Studio Coordinator Leonid Mazor who has history with the initiative, returned to breathe new life into the collaboration. The initiative crafts a platform through which students analyze cultural diversities, educational tactics, and viewpoints on global affairs – a blend that benefits their schooling and broadens their perspectives.

This year, the collaboration took shape around a virtual panel where students from both TV programs delved into politics, social issues, and education. Featuring participants from a country marred by political strain, the dialogues gave these young minds a peek into each other's worlds that's arguably hard to come by through textbooks or traditional learning means. "GHS-TV students were highly motivated and appreciative of the partnership," Mazor shared on Memphis-Shelby County Schools, underscoring the importance placed on such interactions that stretch their cognitive boundaries.

With the final episode recently wrapped up, the students have signified not only their engagement but also the robust and enduring nature of this transatlantic partnership. This collaboration celebrated its seventh year, strengthening the media and cultural ties between the U.S. and Georgia, and displaying the rippling effects of this continued exchange. The program stands as a testament to MSCS’ dedication to forging connections that enrich students' education through practical journalism and a greater worldly understanding.

The final result of this international venture will air on ghstv.org at the end of December.
