Michele Fiore has announced her intention to run for re-election as a Justice of the Peace in Nye County amid ongoing legal and ethical controversies. Her judicial powers are currently suspended, but a presidential pardon and a temporary stay from the Nevada Supreme Court have allowed her to pursue her bid, and she said, "I have been tested and tried, and I have triumphed. I am excited to be running for re-election and deeply motivated by the continued support of the people I serve."
Fiore was convicted of wire fraud in 2025 related to the misuse of funds for a police memorial, charges she denies. She stated in her announcement, "I am running because I believe in courage over convenience, principle over politics, and the right of the people, not institutions to choose their leaders," according to Fox5 Vegas.
Before becoming a judge, Fiore was a Republican Nevada assemblywoman starting in 2012, served as Las Vegas mayor pro tem, and ran for governor and state treasurer. 8 News Now reported that she was appointed as a judge by the Nye County Commissioners in late 2022, despite not having a law degree, and was re-elected by voters in June 2024, before her federal indictment. She is set to run in the primary election on June 9.
