Millington residents are finally seeing clearer roads and improved travel conditions as city and state crews have made headway against the challenges presented by this winter's inclement weather. According to an update from the City of Millington, Veterans Parkway is now accessible again, and significant efforts have been devoted to making West Union and Wilkinsville safer for travel. Teams have also been hard at work in the Lucy area, focusing on Sykes, Chase, and Lucy Roads.
The tireless work of Millington Public Works crews has been particularly notable as they supported the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) along Navy Road and helped clear intersections along Highway 51, two key state routes. Despite stretched resources, especially in Shelby County, Millington's dedication to public safety and infrastructure has helped to improve conditions substantially. "Throughout this winter weather event, Millington Public Works crews have supported TDOT along Navy Road and assisted with clearing intersections along Highway 51," the city reported.
However, residents are advised to remain vigilant as overnight refreezing has occurred, leaving neighborhood streets precarious. The city's statement encouraged limited travel, urging those who must venture out to slow down, exercise caution, and provide space for crews to safely continue their work. Acknowledgment was given to the hardworking individuals from not only Millington Public Works but also Shelby County Roads and Bridges, TDOT, and first responders who have all contributed long hours in response to the weather event, according to the City of Millington.
Even as the situation on main roads begins to stabilize, local authorities are highlighting the importance of driving responsibly during recovery efforts. They recommend that travel should be limited whenever possible, and those on the roads should be prepared for tricky conditions. "Overnight refreezing did occur, and neighborhood streets remain very dicey. Most look much like the Bateman photo below," the city update explained, signaling the extent of caution needed for those routes. Safety remains the priority, and the extended efforts of public service teams are ensuring that residents can eventually return to their normal routines with confidence in their local infrastructure.
