A mischievous monkey that had been causing chaos in Morristown was finally captured, according to the local police department. WVLT reported that the cinnamon capuchin made its way into the Trade Center, a music instrument store on South Cumberland Street, causing noticeable damage before it eluded initial capture attempts by animal control.
The saga began early Sunday morning when the Morristown Police Department (MPD) responded to the scene around 8 a.m. to find the animal had already wreaked havoc inside the business, the instruments bearing witness to an unexpected visit, as detailed by WBIR. The MPD later confirmed that they had managed to capture the monkey at a separate location later that evening, much to the relief of the business owners and community members.
Amidst efforts to resolve the primate predicament, further intrigue arose when a USDA-licensed primate worker told 10News that the monkey in question had allegedly been stolen from a farm in Alabama, suggesting that the monkey's journey to Morristown was not of its own volition but rather the result of a shadowy transaction.
Further developments are expected as the MPD continues its investigation into the monkey's provenance and the circumstances of its arrival in Morristown, with "We are aware of the allegation that the animal was stolen, and we will be continuing the investigation," being a statement issued by the police and conveyed by WATE. This event not only rocked a small business with a storefront now marred by primate playfulness but has also painted a peculiar picture of interstate monkey mischief making.
