In a coordinated law enforcement effort, U.S. Marshals apprehended a Mississippi man, 24-year-old Daricka Moore, wanted for a slew of murder charges, including the devastating killing of a 7-year-old girl. As reported by the U.S. Marshals Service, on Jan. 9, the Clay County Sheriff's Department sought the aid of the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force in capturing Moore, who was charged with first-degree murder in connection with six homicides in the Cedarbluff area of Clay County.
Rolling out a robust response, members from the Marshals Task Force joined forces with multiple state and local agencies, forming a net of checkpoints to nab the suspect. Law enforcement from various departments, including the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, aligned along the perimeter, aiming to box Moore in, spotted him leaving one of the murder scenes in a victim's pickup, and later found it deserted in a church parking lot.
Moore's arrest occurred after he was stopped at one of the checkpoints, where, driving a white GMC Acadia without identification, he initially declined to reveal his identity to officials. It wasn't until officers compared his image on the scene with a Mississippi driver's license photo that they confirmed his identity, leading to his capture at approximately 11 p.m. Officers discovered that the GMC Acadia Moore was driving belonged to one of the deceased victims from the third crime scene and found a Glock model 36 pistol inside the vehicle.
Following the arrest, Moore was escorted to the Clay County Jail by members of the Clay County Sheriff’s Department. The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, operational since 2006 and having apprehended over 74,000 fugitives, played a pivotal role in the swift response and capture of Moore. According to the U.S. Marshals Service, additional charges are anticipated to be leveled against Moore as the investigation continues.
