As a bone-chilling winter blast is set to bear down on the region, Monroe Police Department took to social media to deliver a straightforward yet vital reminder to pet owners. The plea is simple: protect your furry friends from the harsh elements. According to a recent post, they urged the community to "bring your pets indoors or provide them with warm, dry and safe shelter" as temperatures plummet.
The warning is stark, underlining the very real dangers pets face when left in the cold: "Prolonged exposure to cold weather can be dangerous or even life-threatening for animals." In this season of frigid forecasts, the department's message is clear—adequate warmth, food, and fresh water, unfrozen, are non-negotiables. The department also provided a critical channel for community action, sharing the contact information for Animal Control. If folks see an animal left out in unforgiving conditions, they’ve been instructed to call the non-emergency dispatch line at 704-289-1591.
