A high-speed chase on Highway 58 ended with the arrest of a motorcyclist on Wednesday afternoon, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office reported. Derrick Wayne Bettis was charged with a slew of offenses after leading law enforcement on a pursuit that exceeded 100 mph before crashing his motorcycle.
At around 3:15 pm, a deputy spotted Bettis driving recklessly in the 7800 block of Highway 58. When the deputy tried to pull him over, Bettis fled, sparking the chase. It continued onto Birchwood Pike, where Bettis eventually lost control and dropped his motorcycle near Condra Drive, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office's social media post.
Bettis was observed discarding a firearm into the woods just before deputies apprehended him. The weapon was later recovered by the authorities. He now faces multiple charges, including Possession of a Firearm with Intent to Go Armed, Felony Evading Arrest, Felony Reckless Endangerment, Reckless Driving, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Tampering with Evidence, Driving on a Revoked Driver’s License, and Violation of Financial Responsibility Law.
After the incident, Bettis was taken to the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office did not provide further details on the arrest or the circumstances leading up to it.
