
A man who was discovered badly injured on a north Austin sidewalk on Dec. 30 has died at a hospital, and Austin Police Department detectives have launched an active death investigation into what happened.
Officers were called for a welfare check just after 9:14 p.m. in the 12000 block of Metric Boulevard, a stretch just south of Walnut Creek near Bittern Hollow. Emergency responders found the man on the sidewalk with serious head injuries, rushed him to a north Austin hospital, and he later died there. Detectives have not yet released the victim’s name.
APD Opens Active Death Investigation
APD has classified the case as an active death investigation, and detectives are interviewing people, collecting and reviewing evidence, and pursuing leads, according to KXAN. Officers at the scene reported no immediate evidence of a traffic crash. The department says there are no arrests or suspect information to announce at this time.

According to KXAN, officers responded to the check welfare call at about 9:14 p.m. in the 12000 block of Metric Boulevard, near the Walnut Creek greenbelt. Emergency crews located the man on a sidewalk with head injuries and took him to a hospital in north Austin, where he later died. Detectives are working to pull together witness accounts and are searching for any video that might help explain how the injuries occurred.
