Committee meetings also included a deliberation on Motion M-26-50, proposing parade times for the upcoming Carnival, aligning with City Code stipulations; this motion received the Committee's support for full council approval.
Supplementing the city’s preparations for Mardi Gras was a proposed Cooperative Endeavor Agreement (CEA) with the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, aiming to buttress public safety through a more than three-million-dollar agreement spanning February to March. With the well-being of New Orleans citizens and visitors alike at stake, the Committee signaled endorsement for this substantial financial commitment, based on a detailed presentation from the New Orleans Police Department, according to the New Orleans City Council News.
Deputy Mayors Renee Lapeyrolerie and Kevin Ferguson also contributed to the session's agenda, delineating their strategic roles and collaborative approaches with the City Council; with Ferguson underscoring homelessness, infrastructure improvements, and overall sustainability efforts aiming for heightened transparency in governance, Lapeyrolerie pitched neighborhood engagement initiatives, forecasting a strategic plan soon to circulate among council members.
