In an event that fortunately resulted in no injuries, two Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools buses were involved in a collision in south Charlotte this past Thursday. As confirmed by officials, the incident took place at the intersection of Bertonley Avenue and Water Oak Road. According to WCNC Charlotte, one bus was carrying eight students to Randolph Middle School while the other bus was empty.
The crash, reported to have happened close to the school, came on the heels of a delay in school operations due to a winter storm's lingering effects from the prior weekend. The principal of Randolph Middle School, Dr. Tyler Mavity, informed families of the situation, ensuring that "all students and staff are safe – no injuries were reported," a sentiment echoed in the message obtained by WBTV, adding that the crash occurred near the school.
Following the event, Bus 926, which sustained heavy front-end damage as WSOCTV reported, was replaced by a substitute bus, number 173. The safe arrival of the eight students at Randolph Middle School was confirmed, having been transported to school without further incident after the collision.
While details regarding the cause of the crash or any potential charges have not been disclosed, the smooth resolution of the incident might serve as a reassuring testament to the school's emergency preparedness. "This morning, Bus 926 and Bus 302 made contact while bringing students to school," Randolph Middle School relayed to parents in a message, emphasizing the quick actions taken to remedy the situation, with the substitute bus dispatched, as per WCNC Charlotte. Parents and the school community were thanked for their understanding and continued support.
