A vehicle drove into the cafeteria of a Memphis high school Tuesday morning, leading to an emergency response. Action News 5 reported that the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at Middle College High School. The building sustained damage, and no injuries were reported. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, and no charges have been filed.
The crash was recorded by a senior at Middle College High School, Traveon Manning, using Meta glasses. In an interview with WREG, Manning said he was filming his reaction to a video a friend was showing him when the crash happened. The footage shows about 100 students in the cafeteria, with several moving away from the vehicle’s path. At the time of the incident, most students were in the cafeteria eating breakfast before class.
Police said the driver of an Infiniti SUV was operating a vehicle with nonfunctioning brakes. The driver reportedly swerved to avoid another vehicle and entered the school cafeteria. Video obtained by FOX13 shows students seated near the window where the SUV crashed.
Later reports stated that some students were affected by the incident. One student was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle after reporting that an object had fallen on her back, and other students were evaluated by paramedics at the scene. The driver reported no injuries. Authorities continue to investigate the incident and assess its impact on the school.
