The City of Norman has been awarded federal funding for several infrastructure, transportation, and environmental projects through the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments’ Metropolitan Planning Organization Call for Projects for Federal Fiscal Year 2029. The information was published by City of Norman yesterday.
Norman submitted projects across multiple funding programs, including the Surface Transportation Block Grant – Urbanized Area and the Public Fleet Clear Air Grant. According to the city, most submitted projects were approved, including three of five STBG-UZA applications. These projects are expected to move forward pending approval by the MPO Policy Committee and programming by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
Funding allocations include approximately $7.5 million for improvements along Tecumseh Road and nearby intersections, and more than $4 million for Constitution Street as part of a 2019 bond project. Additional funding was awarded for air quality and safety projects, including a roundabout at Acres Street and James Garner Avenue and solar lighting along the Constitution Street multimodal path.
The approved projects also include technology and sustainability upgrades such as arterial dynamic message signs, video detection systems, compressed natural gas infrastructure improvements, and solar-powered electric vehicle charging stations.
City officials stated the projects are intended to improve safety, mobility, air quality, and infrastructure across Norman.
