A shopping center in North Memphis has been named in honor of the late Pastor Ricky Floyd. According to Action News 5, the center, located at 3740 North Watkins Street, is now called Floyd Plaza. The dedication ceremony took place on what would have been Floyd’s 59th birthday and was attended by family members, community leaders, and local lawmakers. Pastor Floyd, who was killed last March, had worked on initiatives aimed at supporting young Black men and promoting economic development within the Black community.

During the ceremony, family members and officials honored the late pastor's contributions. Pastor Sheila Floyd, Ricky’s widow, stated in a message obtained by Action News 5, “We stand on sacred ground today, not because of bricks and mortar, but because of the vision, the faith, the sacrifice and the love that built what you see before you.” Floyd Plaza will house a variety of businesses, including ReGroup Boutique Retail and Thrift Store, The Husband Institute, Kingdom Hearts Enrichment Academy, a local bike shop, and an event space, offering resources and services to the community.

Pastor Floyd, recognized for his involvement in the community beyond the Pursuit of God Church congregation, had purchased the shopping center before his death with the intention of supporting economic development and revitalization in the Frayser area. WREG reported that this action reflected his vision for a self-sustaining community.

Dr. Telisa Franklin, a community leader, told WREG that Ambassador Ricky D. Floyd was known for his strong prayer life, focusing on supporting the community through prayer and translating that into direct community work. The center continues to operate according to Floyd’s mission, providing services and spaces designed to promote growth and community engagement.

Samantha Marion, the suspect in Floyd’s death, has been charged with second-degree murder. Local Memphis reports that 42-year-old Marion was involved in a verbal argument with Floyd shortly before the incident in March of last year that resulted in his death. She is scheduled for another court appearance soon.
