In preparation for the chill that's about to sweep OKC, the Utilities Department has sketched out a new game plan for the city's waste collection services, so heads up if your bins are usually emptied on Friday or Monday. According to an announcement on Oklahoma City's website, trash and recycling collection is still scheduled to proceed tomorrow. Residents are asked to place their carts at the curb this evening or by 5 a.m., as crews will begin routes earlier than usual.
If weather conditions prevent completion of Friday’s collection, any missed pickups will be rescheduled for Wednesday, January 28. Bulky waste collection will continue without interruption and is expected to be completed by Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, due to anticipated hazardous road conditions, all trash and recycling service originally scheduled for Monday, January 26, has been postponed and moved to Wednesday, January 28. Bulky waste collection will still proceed on its regular Monday schedule, and residents are advised to leave items at the curb until crews arrive.
Wednesday collections will operate on an expanded schedule to make up for missed Friday service, and all routes will be completed on Monday. Crews will begin work an hour earlier than usual and may continue into the evening to ensure all collections are completed. Residents with Wednesday pickup are advised to place their carts at the curb by 5 a.m., or earlier if possible, and to leave them out until service has been completed, according to the City of Oklahoma City.
For the remainder of the week, regular trash collection is expected to continue on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, though residents are encouraged to stay alert for possible schedule changes as winter weather persists. City officials also noted that deliveries of new carts and repair services may experience minor delays due to weather conditions but are expected to resume once it is safe to do so. Residents with questions or service issues are advised to contact Utilities Customer Service at (405) 297-2833, visit okcutilities.com, or use the My OKC Utilities app for assistance.
