Attorney General Gentner Drummond was allowed to join a lawsuit against State Farm Fire and Casualty Company. Judge Amy Palumbo of Oklahoma County District Court rejected State Farm’s attempt to block his involvement.
According to the Oklahoma government website, the lawsuit accuses State Farm of mishandling homeowners’ insurance claims, particularly for hail and wind damage, through its "Hail Focus Initiative." Drummond welcomed the court’s decision to allow his involvement, saying the ruling was a positive step for policyholders.
Drummond’s motion, filed earlier this month, seeks penalties against State Farm and structural reforms to address alleged misconduct. He criticized the company for profiting from increased premiums while reducing claim payouts, saying this undermines public confidence and places Oklahoma homeowners at risk.
Since August, Drummond has contacted Insurance Commissioner Glen Mulready to address rising premiums. The recent ruling allows his office to participate in the State Farm lawsuit, reinforcing its role in protecting consumer interests. Policyholders and advocates will closely watch the case for transparency and fairness.
