Oklahoma City drivers, be prepared for ongoing traffic disruptions caused by multiple highway construction projects that will continue through 2026. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) has released a comprehensive list of road narrowing, closures, and detours that will continue to affect daily commutes and travel plans.
The intersections of interstates and highways are heavily impacted. According to ODOT, key areas, such as I-40 at I-44, will be narrowed nightly, and the I-240 interchange will be narrowed at I-35 as part of a major interchange improvement project. The I-44 off-ramps at N.W. 10th St. are also shut down through the summer of 2026 due to a city bridge project. The intersection of SH-66 and US-81 in El Reno will continue to be a challenge for drivers, as it will only have one lane available in each direction through 2025.
Local streets are also affected. Danforth Rd. and Kelly Ave. in Edmond are reduced to one lane at the intersection for expansion, with work expected to finish in spring 2026. Garth Brooks Blvd. in Yukon will have one lane in each direction under I-40 through summer 2026 for resurfacing.
Bridge and surface work is causing major disruptions. US-77 in Norman will have nightly lane closures through November for resurfacing, and SH-37/S.E. 4th St. in Moore is closed between Broadway Ave. and Tower Dr. until summer 2026 for a railroad bridge project. Near Calumet, US-270 is reduced to one lane through 2025 for surface work, with temporary traffic signals managing traffic.
These construction projects are causing delays, and drivers should plan for extra travel time. ODOT advises exercising caution in work zones and staying updated on current traffic conditions across the Oklahoma City metro area.
