An early-morning police response shut down the southbound on-ramp to I-11 at Las Vegas Boulevard near downtown today, tangling the commute and pushing frustrated drivers onto surface streets. Traffic cameras in the area showed at least one overturned vehicle and a major emergency presence. The ramp stayed closed into the morning while officers and cleanup crews worked the scene.
According to FOX5 Las Vegas, the Regional Transportation Commission reported that all lanes were blocked on the southbound I-11 on-ramp at Las Vegas Boulevard and that traffic cameras appeared to show one overturned vehicle. FOX5 noted that it had reached out to Nevada State Police for more information as the situation was unfolding.
Traffic impact and detours
The Regional Transportation Commission's FAST alerts warn that ramp closures like this can quickly choke nearby surface streets, and drivers in the area were advised to brace for delays and use alternate routes where possible. For live rerouting help and official travel advisories, check RTC Southern Nevada for FAST alerts and detour recommendations.
Recent pattern on I-11
This is just the latest hit to downtown commuters using I-11. Earlier this month, a rollover crash shut down northbound lanes at Charleston Boulevard, and on Dec. 1 a vehicle fire briefly closed lanes near the Las Vegas Boulevard exit. Both the earlier all northbound lanes closed incident and the December car fire shuts northbound lanes disruption were documented by Hoodline.
How to stay updated
Drivers are urged to check the RTC FAST alerts and the Nevada Department of Transportation's traveler pages or dial 511 for the latest highway conditions and detour guidance. NDOT and RTC routinely post updates during incidents and may recommend specific alternate routes. Motorists should steer clear of the interchange if possible and give emergency crews plenty of room to work while the ramp is cleared.
We will update this story as more information comes in from law enforcement and transportation officials. Commuters should consult official channels before heading into downtown this morning.
