Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, recognized for its efforts in aiding passengers with dementia, has announced the continuation of their Dementia Friendly Air Travel Workshop, an initiative entering its fourth year and lauded for its impact on the travel experience for individuals with cognitive impairments.

At America's Friendliest Airport®, which serves nearly 1,000 aircraft and 130,000 passengers daily, the program provides practical guidance for travelers with dementia, a condition affecting an estimated 7 million Americans.

According to Phoenix, the workshops bring together airport staff, airline representatives, and TSA officials to provide tips, information, and a Q&A session for families and caregivers. The program was recognized by Airports Council International – North America as the Best Customer Experience Program for Large Airports in 2023.

The next Dementia Friendly Air Travel Workshop will be held  Jan. 21, from 10 a.m. to noon. Interested participants should email [email protected] with the subject 'Dementia Friendly Air Travel Workshop Registration' to reserve a spot. Limited seating is available, and the session will also be offered virtually. Guest and Employee Experience Superintendent Misty Cisneros-Contreras emphasized the program's importance, saying, 'The airport can be a stressful place for those dealing with dementia.'

PHX Sky Harbor, which generates over $44 billion annually, is a major aviation hub. Its community programs, funded entirely by airport revenue, support passengers with dementia and reflect the airport’s commitment to inclusivity.
