Calling all community-minded sports enthusiasts in the unincorporated area of Seminole: your expertise and passion could be in high demand. Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners announced that applications are now open for four citizen appointments to the Unincorporated Seminole Sports Association (USSA). If you're a qualified Pinellas County elector and want to help shape the recreational offerings in your region, now's your chance to step up to the plate.
The appointed members will serve two-year terms, starting from when they are selected. The USSA, a creation of the county ordinance, aims to bolster resources for recreational activities in the area. The board is composed of seven members, but there’s a catch - none of the four at-large directors can be board members of the local athletic associations, ensuring some level of impartiality.
Specifically, as stated on the county's official notice, each at-large director must reside within the Unincorporated Seminole Sports District. They also must not have existing board affiliations with groups like the Cross Bayou Athletic Association, Seminole Youth Athletic Association, or the Seminole Junior Warhawks Athletic Association. For those looking to confirm their eligibility based on location, a boundary map of the district is available online.
If you’re up for the commitment, USSA meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month at St. Petersburg College's Seminole Campus at 7 p.m. Interested parties have until 3 p.m on Wednesday, March 25 to submit their applications. You can find the necessary forms on the Pinellas County government's boards, councils, and committees web page.
