Pleasanton City Council outlined policies aimed at supporting local business growth. In a December 2 meeting, officials discussed reducing red tape, reorganizing city departments, and implementing initiatives to encourage business investment, according to the City of Pleasanton.

The Community & Economic Development Department, a new city office, will combine planning, permitting, and economic development functions to streamline processes, according to the City of Pleasanton. Updates to the zoning process are expected to speed development review and reduce design review requirements for smaller projects.

“We are moving with purpose,” said Gerry Beaudin, Pleasanton City Manager. The city has advanced its Retail Attraction Strategy, launched new marketing tools for businesses, and strengthened support for entrepreneurs through partnerships with local and regional organizations, according to the City of Pleasanton.

Looking ahead to 2026, Pleasanton plans to strengthen its retail attraction efforts and simplify permit processes for commercial and tenant improvements. “By streamlining processes and making it easier for businesses to grow, invest, and innovate here, we’re strengthening our local economy, expanding choices for residents, and building a vibrant future for Pleasanton,” Mayor Jack Balch said, according to the City of Pleasanton.

Pleasanton is preparing to launch Pleasanton Playbook, a guide to the city’s development review process for businesses and investors. The initiative is part of broader efforts to create a more transparent, business-friendly environment, especially as the city seeks to enhance tourism and hospitality ahead of major events like the Super Bowl and World Cup.
