The Port of Los Angeles is charting a new course into the future of cruises with an update to its facilities, selecting the joint venture of Pacific Cruise Terminals, LLC (PCT), which is comprised of Carrix, Inc. and JLC Infrastructure, for the development and operation of two central cruise centers, as per a release from Business Wire. The new Outer Harbor cruise terminal alongside the redeveloped World Cruise Center aims to solidify Los Angeles' position as the West Coast's premier gateway for cruise operations, potentially generating approximately $1.3 million of local economic activity with each cruise ship call, and this upward trajectory is reflected in the 1.6 million passengers the port hosted last year.
The project not only seeks to capture the burgeoning cruise business but also to integrate community-enhancing features such as open spaces and recreational facilities, which were emphasized by Gene Seroka, the Port's executive director, in a statement gained through KTLA. Furthermore, Stefano Borzone, president of Carrix's cruise division, echoed the sentiment of community growth and highlighted the demand for cruise vacations in a statement to Marine Log, expecting the new cruise center to significantly position Los Angeles front and center on the West Coast cruise map.
As the Union of the world’s largest independent marine operators and a leading player in cruise terminal operations, Carrix brings a deep expertise to the table in maritime infrastructure projects, building on a proven record of collaborative undertakings underscored by its CEO, Uffe Ostergaar,d via Business Wire. Magic Johnson's JLC Infrastructure, recognized for managing a suite of investments in crucial sectors such as transportation, energy, and communications, sees this partnership as a strategic move that aligns with their philosophy of investing in infrastructure that spurs growth in local communities; Marlon Smith, managing director at JLC, reflected this strategy in a communication to Marine Log.
The two-fold development plan not only prepares the Port of Los Angeles for the newest and most environmentally sustainable cruise ships it promises a reinvigorated waterfront that is enhanced with facilities accessible to both residents and visitors; officials tout the dual benefit of an economic boost and social enrichment for the port communities, as have the past year’s cruise calls indicating a soaring interest and record-breaking passenger count, as was noted by the Port of L.A. Executive Director Gene Seroka in a release from KTLA. The united vision shared by Carrix and JLC Infrastructure, backed by considerable experience and capital, symbolizes not merely an investment in the infrastructure but a deeper commitment to the community where the port's roots are deeply embedded and its economic prosperity is inevitably tied.
