The application period has closed for Portland Parks and Recreation’s Project Advisory Committee for the Gov. Tom McCall Waterfront Park Bowl area, marking a key milestone in shaping the site’s future. The committee will advise Portland Parks and Recreation, act as a bridge to the community, and help guide redevelopment through a process that includes a national design competition, according to the City of Portland.

Before that competition begins, the Project Advisory Committee will help define key deliverables, including community engagement priorities and design criteria, ensuring alignment with sustainability and urban design standards. PP&R sought a diverse group reflecting Portland’s broad perspectives, drawing on lived experience with downtown and the riverfront as well as professional backgrounds in areas such as architecture, planning, and arts and culture, as reported by the City of Portland.

PAC members are tasked to “Elevate and confirm community priorities for the project site and designs,” by working with Portland Parks and Recreation staff and the selected design team to review site research, programming, and design criteria for the Gov. Tom McCall Waterfront Park project. With the application period closed, the city will move into the selection process and next phases of the project, which focuses on the future redevelopment of the waterfront bowl area to address recreational, cultural, and ecological needs, as stated by the City of Portland.
