An inmate at the Renville County Jail suffered a fatal medical emergency on the first day of the new year, prompting an investigation by state authorities. The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office has identified the deceased as Percy Lee Strother, a 53-year-old man from Roseville. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), which is leading the investigation, stated that Strother was found "unconscious and unresponsive" in his cell shortly before 7:30 a.m. on January 1.
After discovering Strother in distress, correctional officers acted to remove him from his cell and provide medical attention immediately. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital by emergency medical personnel. Despite the rapid response, Strother was pronounced dead after his arrival at the facility. According to the BCA release, the circumstances surrounding Strother's death are still under scrutiny, with no "obvious signs of trauma" reported, and the cause of his death remains to be determined.
The BCA's preliminary investigation findings have been sparse, as officials have yet to determine exactly how Strother came to suddenly pass away in custody. As is often the case in such incidents, the formulation of the full story will be a process unfolding incrementally, with facts slowly emerging as the BCA continues its work. The Renville County Sheriff's Office, which requested the BCA to take over the investigation, has so far refrained from commenting on the matter, bearing the mark of an inquiry in progress.
The BCA has committed to thoroughly looking into the possible causes of Strother's untimely demise, in an attempt to fully understand and officially report on the events that led to his death. The investigation, as of now, continues with outcomes pending and much to be understood.
