The Round Rock Public Library is asking for a bit of help from its patrons, and no, it’s not late fees they’re after. The local library is reaching out to the community through an online survey to inform its five-year strategic plan, looking to gain insights into how residents use the library and what they want out of it in the future. It’s a straightforward questionnaire designed to help set the library’s priorities, from its budget to its services.
Since moving into its current digs at 200 E. Liberty Ave., the library's seen quite a year. In just the first 12 months after opening in 2023, it welcomed 437,872 visitors, and nearly 17,000 new members signed up. With the facility coming up on its third anniversary, officials are taking stock and looking forward to the next five years. But, they’re not doing it alone – they’re hoping for a little crowd-sourced wisdom.
According to the City of Round Rock's official announcement, the survey is more than just a head count or a popularity contest for library programs. The feedback will directly influence decisions about where money gets spent, what kind of events are hosted, and what books or resources hit the shelves.
All community members are welcome to pitch in their two cents, or if we’re going by library fines, maybe their five cents. The online form is promised to be a quick one to fill out, and people have until January 31 to submit their responses. It’s like a civic duty that doesn’t require you to even leave the house, or put on real pants. It’s democracy, digitized and streamlined for the modern age, or at least for the modern library-goer.
