The National Weather Service in Seattle issued a Dense Fog Advisory early this morning, affecting several areas in northwest and west central Washington. Visibility is expected to be a quarter mile or less, causing potentially hazardous driving conditions. The NWS advisory will remain in effect until 10 AM PST.
The dense fog brings with it not only impaired visibility but also the risk of a thin layer of black ice on roadways, particularly in regions where the temperature is below freezing. Motorists are advised to exercise caution. According to the NWS forecast, rain is also on the cards later in the day, with a 40 percent chance of precipitation after 1 pm and a high near 44 degrees. The weather is likely to stay wet with varying chances of rain throughout the week.
Tonight, Seattle residents can expect more rain, primarily after 10 pm, with new precipitation amounts between a quarter and half an inch possible. The low is predicted around 41 degrees, maintaining mild temperatures despite the wet conditions. The rain is set to continue into tomorrow with South wind 7 to 9 mph, and new rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch expected.
The advisory covers a wide area including the cities of Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, and several other communities. For those planning to travel, "If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you," the NWS advises. Rain is likely to persist throughout the weekend, with high temperatures hovering just above the 50-degree mark.
