The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a coastal flood advisory for the early hours of Sunday morning, cautioning residents to be prepared for minor coastal flooding in several areas including the lowlands of Western Skagit and Northwestern Snohomish Counties, and the City of Seattle among others. According to the NWS forecast, "Minor coastal flooding due to tidal overflow is expected around high tide," which could lead to flooding of parking lots, parks, and roads, with only isolated road closures expected.
Seattle itself remains draped in a misty rain with a high near 48°F, while the surrounding lowlands experience similar weather patterns. The area's residents should be aware of the visibility issues with fog limiting sight to 3 miles, and a wind chill dropping temperatures to feeling more like 44°F. The current humidity is logged at 93%, presenting an additional element for locals to navigate as they face the damp and blustery conditions.
Looking ahead, the week's weather is set to remain mostly cloudy with slight fluctuations in temperature. The NWS detailed forecast suggests a high wind activity today with south southwest gusts reaching up to 31 mph. While tonight's low will hover around 40°F, Monday through Saturday's temperatures are expected to vary between mid to high 40s for highs and mid to high 30s for lows.
The coastal flood advisory also specifies the potential of a 2 to 3 feet increase in water levels above ground. Residents in the affected areas are advised to take precautions, "If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth." Additionally, the notice includes guidance to protect flood-prone properties from the expected tidal overflow impacting shorelines and low-lying coastal areas. The advisory will remain effective until 10 AM PST today, aiming to mitigate the impacts of this short-term flooding event, as detailed by the NWS.
