St. Augustine is set to welcome a new Police Chief, Sergeant Jon Marston, as announced by City Manager David Birchim. With a career spanning over 17 years, Marston will assume his role on Tuesday, succeeding Police Chief Jennifer Michaux. In a statement obtained by the City of St. Augustine, Birchim praised Marston's professional excellence and underscored his dedication to accountability.
Bringing a vast array of experience to the table, Marston's career has seen him working as a sergeant across patrol, investigations, and training—and has led the Special Response Team. The selection of Marston, having held various operational and leadership positions, City Manager David Birchim has expressed his confidence that he will foster a well-trained and community-centered police force.
Known for his active involvement in officer development, Sgt. Jon Marston has imparted knowledge in defensive tactics, firearms, and emergency vehicle operations as an instructor. He has also played a pivotal role in shaping new officers' futures, serving as a Field Training Officer. These efforts have earned him commendation; outgoing Police Chief Jennifer Michaux commented, "Jon exemplifies the leadership, vision, and commitment to community safety that the department, City, and residents expect." Michaux further stated that Marston will guide the department with "integrity and accountability," as noted by the City of St. Augustine.
Marston holds a Bachelor's degree in Homeland Security from Vincennes University, and his educational pursuits didn't conclude there—graduating from the Florida Leadership Academy, Class 47, Marston continues his path of learning, working towards the FBI LEEDA Trilogy Award. In focusing on his goal, the Sergeant is currently undertaking advanced leadership training, specializing in government supervision and command decision-making.
