
A fire that ignited on the third floor of a Brooklyn Heights brownstone yesterday afternoon led to multiple injuries and spurred a rapid response from firefighters and emergency personnel. According to ABC7 New York, the blaze at 62 Pierrepont St. broke out just after 3:30 p.m., prompting evacuations and rescues from the building's fire escape.
The FDNY had to quickly to respond after the fire was reported, with NewsCopter 7 capturing footage of firefighters rescuing three individuals via the fire escape. In total, seven people were reported injured, including two firefighters, one of which was severely injured and needed to be transported to the hospital, per ABC7 New York.
Additional coverage from PIX11 noted smoke and fire visibly pouring out from the third-story windows. It required the concerted efforts of 21 units comprising nearly 80 fire and EMS personnel to combat the flames. The Citizen app video underscored the urgency with which these crews worked to mitigate the situation.
With the fire placed under control before 4:30 p.m., according to ABC7 New York, officials are now focusing on the aftermath.
The FDNY reported that, aside from the firefighters, two civilians suffered severe injuries and were taken quickly to nearby hospitals, as reported by PIX11. Fire marshals are currently investigating to determine the cause of the fire.
