Residents in Sevierville with young children have an opportunity to ensure their little ones travel safely, as the Sevierville Police Department hosts a free child car safety seat check this Saturday. According to a social media post from the department, certified technicians will be available from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 300 Gary Wade Boulevard to assist parents and caregivers with the safety of their child's journey.
The process of installing and using car safety seats can be tricky, and so this event is dedicated to helping tackle that complexity by preventing injury through correct use and installation and the service is not just limited to helping you fix what you already have—technicians at the event will also guide caregivers through selecting the best car safety seats suited for their kids, they'll look out for any recalls that could affect your child's safety seat, there's going to be room for all your questions about transitioning from safety seats to boosters, and even regular seat belts, moreover parents can register for the WHALE program, which stands for We Have A Little Emergency, a child safety identification program, as mentioned on department's Facebook post.
It's not just a one-day affair; the SPD reminds parents that they can have their safety seats checked throughout the year by visiting the department. To avoid any inconvenience, they suggest calling ahead at 865-868-1866 to make sure a certified technician will be on hand to assist. Should there be more inquiries regarding the event or car seat safety in general, SPD Lieutenant Rebecca Cowan is available via email at [email protected], ready to provide additional information and answer any lingering questions parents may have.
Child safety in vehicles has long been a point of emphasis among safety advocates, with the correct use of car seats and boosters being shown to significantly reduce the risk of injury for children in the event of a crash, and the Sevierville Police Department's initiative ensures that every child gets the protection they deserve every trip, every time as they echo the city's commitment to child passenger safety.
