Rural Metro Fire responded to a fire at a home on East Raccoon Valley Drive, where light smoke was seen rising from the 7000 block residence. The homeowner credited their smoke detectors for the alert, saying, "The home owner stated they smelt smoke, heard the smoke detectors alarm and then saw the smoke coming from the attic," as reported by the Rural Metro Fire Department.
Firefighters quickly located the fire in the attic, where it had entangled the home's wiring, and cut the electricity to contain it. They fully extinguished the blaze and removed smoke from the home, ensuring the residence was safe, as stated by the Rural Metro Fire Department.
According to the Rural Metro Fire Department on their Facebook page, residents should focus on two key safety points: the importance of working smoke detectors and calling for help before trying to fight a fire. They said, "NEVER, try to extinguish a fire BEFORE you call 911. Call the FD first, then try to extinguish the fire from a safe position if you choose." Residents are advised to keep smoke detectors functional and avoid handling fires alone. For more information on fire safety or community programs, contact 865-321-8613.
