In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the City of St. Augustine has announced that its offices will be closed on Monday, January 19. The holiday, commemorating the civil rights leader's legacy, will not affect the normal schedule of solid waste collections, which will continue as usual. Residents can expect their trash to be picked up on their regular designated day, as per the city's announcement.

Visitors and locals alike will benefit from free parking in city-owned lots and on-street parking spaces throughout the holiday, except at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument and the Historic Downtown Parking Facility. This gesture is in line with the city's policy to waive parking fees on all national holidays. However, drivers are urged to verify whether a parking facility is city-owned or privately operated since many private lots enforce strict towing policies.

The city has made it clear that even on a holiday, parking regulations will be strictly enforced. "Parking will be enforced for all vehicles parked illegally, including in areas reserved for delivery, franchised sightseeing vehicles and taxis, or vehicles on sidewalks or against yellow curbs," according to the city's official website.
