St. Louis residents are bracing for a brisk start to the week with the National Weather Service (NWS) issuing a cold weather advisory that stretched through the morning. Temperatures plummeted to a biting 17°F, with wind chill values making it feel as cold as 0°F. As reported by the NWS, the wind hit northwest speeds of 21 G 36 mph, challenging those venturing outdoors with the uncomfortable combo of cold and gusts.
While the rest of the day is forecasted to remain sunny, the NWS warns of a "blustery" clime, with winds expected to die down later in the afternoon. Despite clear skies tonight and a slight uptick in temperature on Tuesday, hitting near a more manageable 38°F, the mood has been set cold by piercing winds, which promised little respite from the winter chill. The detailed forecast shared by NWS St. Louis gives a more moderate outlook as the week progresses, with sunny conditions prevailing but temperatures remaining moderately cold.
According to the NWS, the Hazardous Weather Outlook highlights the immediate challenge: enduring the cold snap. Particularly at risk are the northeast Missouri areas through to south-central Illinois, with the advisory explicitly cautioning against wind chill values as low as 15 degrees below zero. As stated in a bulletin released by the National Weather Service St Louis MO at 403 AM CST Mon Jan 19 2026, "A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1000 AM for portions of northeast Missouri through west-central and south-central Illinois."
Looking ahead, the week shows signs of reprieve as no further hazardous weather is expected after the stark coldness of Monday. By Wednesday, the sun should raise the high near 46°F, and the winds, persistently from the west, mellow to 7 to 10 mph with occasional gusts. Yet with a 20 to 30 percent chance of snow forecasted on Friday and Saturday nights, respectively, the landscape might transform into a wintery tableau.
