Tragedy struck Staten Island earlier this month, when a 66-year-old man succumbed to injuries sustained after being struck by an SUV. Jean Victorin of West Brighton was identified as the victim of the incident, which occurred on January 4, according to a report by SI Live. The accident happened on South Avenue near Forest Avenue, where NYPD responded to a call around 1:54 p.m.
The investigation led by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad revealed that Victorin was crossing South Avenue in the middle of the block when he was hit by a southbound 2014 Audi Q5, driven by a 22-year-old male. Despite initial assessments that the victim's head injury was non-life-threatening, his condition took a turn for the worse, and, on January 11, Victorin passed away due to complications from the injury. The details around the crash site highlight the area's precarious safety record, with three crashes that injured three people at the nearby intersection over the past year, and another two crashes that injured three at an adjacent intersection, as per information gathered by AMNY.
Following the incident, the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was not arrested. The NYPD's investigation is ongoing, with no arrests made in connection to the event. While the inquiry continues, the NYPD has not released further comments regarding charges or citations that may stem from the incident.
