January has been designated as Teen Driving Awareness Month, and the Statesville Police Department has taken this opportunity to address the compelling need for increased awareness and education in safe driving practices among teens. As reported on their social media post, the department highlighted an alarming statistic: teens were involved in over 12,000 crashes during the notorious 100 Deadliest Days, the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day in 2024. These incidents resulted in more than 2,300 injuries and the loss of 32 young lives.
In response to these figures, the Statesville Police Department is actively working to promote responsible driving behaviors. The department emphasizes the community's role, particularly that of parents, teens, and caregivers, to "start the conversation" and engage in dialogues about driving safety. They aim to collaboratively reduce risk on the roads. " ππππ§ ππ«π’π―π’π§π ππ°ππ«ππ§ππ¬π¬ ππ¨π§ππ‘, a time to remind our community that learning to drive is an exciting milestone - but one that comes with serious responsibility," the Statesville Police Department stated in a social media post.
The Statesville Police Department is also encouraging families to seek out resources and educational materials to better prepare young drivers for the road. The effort is intended to protect not only teens, but everyone who shares Statesville’s streets and highways.
The Statesville Police Department stressed that “ππππ ππ«π’π―π’π§π π¬πππ«ππ¬ π°π’ππ‘ ππ°ππ«ππ§ππ¬π¬ - ππ§π ππ°ππ«ππ§ππ¬π¬ π¬ππ―ππ¬ π₯π’π―ππ¬.” Officials say highlighting the consequences of irresponsible driving can help build a stronger culture of safety across the community.
