In a recent social media update, Portland Fire & Rescue heralded the longstanding service of Station 18 to the communities of southwest Portland. The station, located at 8720 SW 30th, has played a critical role in safeguarding the lives and properties of residents since 1951, a year marking the transition from a volunteer outpost sponsored by the Multnomah Village business sector to an integral part of the city's fire protection service. This piece of local history was shared via a post by the Portland Fire & Rescue.

Aside from its initial setup, Station 18 underwent a significant change in location in 1961, a move designed to optimize their response capacities and facilities. In the post, Portland Fire & Rescue described their coverage area, which spans various neighborhoods including Multnomah Village, Hillsdale, and West Portland Park, among others. "Station 18 has been serving the far southwest Portland neighborhoods since 1951," the department noted.

Station 18 prides itself on its versatile response capabilities. Equipped with an Engine, Heavy Squad, and Brush Units, the crews are trained to mobilize all apparatus as situations demand, extending their aid beyond Portland boundaries into neighboring Lake Oswego, and even the Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue’s district. The Portland Fire & Rescue emphasized this, touting their readiness to respond with two units “as needed or requested for incidents throughout west Portland, Lake Oswego, and Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue’s district.”
