A wrong‑way driver tore through Fort Worth's Stockyards yesterday, and the chase ended in tragedy when the fleeing car slammed into a utility pole, killing a passenger and leaving the driver in critical condition. Police say the pursuit began after officers tried to stop the vehicle on Exchange Avenue.
Officers first spotted the car around 2:40 a.m. and reported that the occupants ignored commands, pulled a U‑turn and took off, according to The Dallas Morning News. Police then broadcast a description of the vehicle. A few minutes later a marked patrol unit found the car again and tried another traffic stop, but the driver allegedly fled once more before losing control near the 1500 block of East 4th Street.
Officers pulled an unresponsive passenger from the wreckage and gave medical aid, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to a hospital and remained in critical condition as of Saturday afternoon, authorities told FOX 4.
