A vehicle pursuit turned collision unfolded Wednesday evening when a woman driving a stolen car failed to heed a traffic stop and subsequently crashed into a KAT bus in Knoxville. The Knoxville Police Department reports that the incident started near Hall of Fame Drive and Summit Hill Drive at about 5:30 p.m., when officers attempted to stop a vehicle reported stolen out of Loudon County, only to be led on a brief chase culminating in a collision at the intersection of Hall of Fame Drive and Church Avenue.
The car's driver, Jessica Hudgins, age 45, was ejected from the vehicle as a result of the accident. She suffered suspected non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Meanwhile, the bus driver also received precautionary medical attention at the hospital, and no other injuries have been reported. As outlined in the police account, Hudgins was found to have had not just one but two outstanding warrants in Knox County, along with another active warrant in Anderson County, prior to this event, according to a social media post.
In light of this latest encounter with law enforcement, Hudgins is now facing multiple charges related to the vehicle pursuit and the subsequent crash. Details on the specific charges or the condition of Hudgins post-accident have not been released at this time; however, the ramifications of this incident for Hudgins are clear, with legal consequences likely to follow the completion of the ongoing investigation.
Hudgins, who had outstanding warrants at the time of the incident, was involved in a police pursuit that ended in a crash, according to authorities. Police said the Knoxville Police Department initiated the pursuit and followed established procedures, bringing the incident to an end without serious injuries to officers or members of the public. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
