The National Weather Service in Tampa Bay has issued a Cold Weather Advisory that remains in effect from midnight until 9 AM EST Tuesday for parts of southwest and west central Florida. Residents expect to experience very cold wind chills as low as 26 degrees, prompting concerns for outdoor activities and vulnerable populations. According to the National Weather Service forecast, this could potentially lead to hypothermia if individuals are exposed for prolonged periods.
The public is urged to wear hats and gloves, check on neighbors and the elderly, and use portable heaters safely. Grills and generators should never be used indoors. The NWS also advises caution when traveling outdoors.
The detailed forecast also indicates that there's a 40 percent chance of showers before 9 AM today, with weather conditions gradually becoming sunny and temperatures falling to around 59 degrees in the afternoon. Along with the cold, the wind is expected to pick up, gusting as high as 24 mph. The cold snap is expected to continue, with lows hovering around the mid-30s to low-40s throughout the week.
The NWS warns that very cold temperatures can cause hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Residents should bundle up, check on one another, and monitor the NWS website for updates and advisories.
