A major tanker truck rollover has disrupted traffic on the Inner Loop of I-695 in Baltimore County. According to reports from Fox Baltimore, the Maryland State Highway Administration confirmed that the incident occurred at Exit 11A/I-95 at around 10:36 a.m., involving two vehicles and resulting in the closure of all four traffic lanes and both shoulders on the Inner Loop.
Commuters faced additional delays as one lane and one shoulder on the Outer Loop were also made impassable. Traffic snarls compounded by an active fuel leak from the 7,000-gallon tanker, which contained gasoline and diesel, caused a significant safety hazard necessitating closure and drawing emergency responders to the scene, according to WMAR-2 News. The Baltimore County Fire Department has commenced foam operations, and a HazMat team is actively working with the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) to contain and manage the hazardous situation.
Authorities have not provided an estimated timeframe for reopening the impacted sections of I-695, but urge motorists to seek alternative routes and to stay informed on traffic updates by visiting the Maryland Department of Transportation's website.
